INTERVIEW with Noor Sahar – a very talented student from Heriot Watt University Dubai/ fashion designing department.

Q1) what advice would you give to an artist just starting out?

I personally think the gift of being able to draw is inborn& comes naturally, so anyone who has this special gift should use it to the fullest.

Firstly, myadvice to any artist would be to polish their drawing skills by learning to experiment with different mediums& most importantly believing in your own creations. Secondly, get in the habit of carrying a sketchbook with you wherever you go, and draw from life as much as possible.

The drawing process requires a tremendous synthesis. Art needs dedication and immense patience sodon’t give up! J

Q2) could you tell us about your paintings?

I mostly paint in Realism. My works can be described as mystical creations as I get inspired by unearthly things.I have always been interested in figurative drawing &most of my paintings are depicted from Natureaswell.I approach painting with random intentions. I generally work on an A2 scale.

In the final stages of my paintings I add the final touches which I believe is the most important part in a painting.

Q3) What other interests do have (besides painting)?

I like listening to all sorts of music and reading books about Art. Watching Movies and traveling are my favourites. Living in UAE allows me to take advantage of the great range of galleries and get inspired by the versatile multicultural environment.

In relation to my personal life, it’s much simpler; I am currently studying Fashion designing in Heriot Watt University. It’s extraordinary how much time passes just hanging out, talking to friends and working on my university projects. Well I really do have many hobbies and no time to always practice them.

Q4) What inspires you to paint and how do you keep motivated when things get tough in the studio?

I prefer always to be alone when I’m thinking or drawing.Basically everything around me inspires me, anything that catches my eye &quite often things from nature. I am a realistic artist so it is the feeling that counts a lot. I Love drawing so getting motivated is not too much of an issue. ;)
